For about twelve years, NFM Technologies has been designing and constructing tunnel boring machines, principally specializing in large diameter soft ground TBMs. Their most spectacular project at present is the world’s largest TBM in Groene Hart, The Netherlands, with a diameter of 14,87 meters. This tunnel boring machine constructs a tunnel for the extension of the Thalys High Speed Railway Line between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Their own development in the world’s largest TBM was the Benton’Air® system, a combination of pressurized slurry systems.

NFM Technologies, with headquarters in Lyon and a production site in Le Creusot, was integrated into the group as a sister company to WIRTH GmbH Erkelenz as of November 1st, 2001.

The Kowloon Canton Railway Corp is one of the largest railway operators in the world, transporting more than one million passengers daily.

To cater for increasing population movements between the residential areas in the New Territories and the business centres of Hong Kong and Kowloon, KCRC is extending its transport network.

The largely urban nature of Hong Kong, together with the mountainous terrain, mean that tunnels become an essential component of virtually any infrastructure project.                              MORE NFM NEWS
