Slaters Electricals was founded in 1926 by the grandfather of the present managing director. The company, with it's head office and works based at Blaydon, North East England, provides a refurbishment service and sale of electrical HV and LV switchgear, transformers, motors and ancillary equipment. Growth and success over the past seventy years has given the company the continuity to build up a wealth of knowledge and experience in a wide range of electrical power generation equipment.

Slaters are committed to ensuring that their work achieves a high standard of quality. Having been accredited with ISO9002, the company has extensive written procedures to help carry out job functions in a methodical and efficient manner. The works and office staff perform their responsibilities in accordance with these requirements with commitment to doing the job correctly first time.

Maintaining large stocks of both complete items and stock spare parts allow Slaters to offer customers quick deliveries without having to wait for third party suppliers.

The policy, when purchasing and, subsequently, refurbishing redundant plant, is to offer equipment in as close to as-new condition as possible. Slaters currently hold a vast selection of HV and LV switchgear and motors within their 9,000 square metre state-of-the-art facility.

Transformer Stock Profile

Reconditioned Ex-Stock for sale or for hire.

* ONAN, air-cooled, synthetic liquid filled and cast resin.

* Step down Dyn11 or step up Ynd11 and Ynyn0.

* Distribution, Power, Furnace and Special application test transformers.

* Range: 1kva to 120MVA at voltages from 415v, 3.3kv, 6.6kv, 11kv, 20kv and 33kv, up to 66kv.

* Suppliers ex-stock of new oil cooled or cast resin transformer up to 2MVA.

* Suppliers of new air-cooled transformers up to 500kva.

* 110/ 220/ 240/ 308/ 415/ 550/ 600/ 650/ 690v standard or one-off specials.

Slaters offer a comprehensive range of transformers with air or compound filled cable boxes, which are generally in accordance with British Standards or to suit customers' specific cabling requirements. However, in some instances, the customer may require primary protection or isolation, close coupled on the HV side of the transformer. Slaters are able to offer the following types of equipment of varying manufacture as specified by the customer.

Oil Switches, Oil Fuse Switches, Oil Ring Main Units, SF6 Ring Main Units.,

On the secondary side of the transformer standard fitting would be an air-insulated cable box. However, feeder pillars or moulded case circuit breakers can be close coupled if required.

Uilising LV feeder pillars together with an Oil or SF6 Ring Main Unit, Slaters can offer a fully packaged sub-station.

High Voltage Switchgear Stock Profile

* The company carries extensive stocks of all of all current British switchgear manufacturers' types of equipment covering voltages up to 11/12kV. In the main this relates to more recent varieties of design but the stock extends to some older designs such as Compton Parkinson, Ellison, Johnson & Phillips, etc, but only those types of equipment fitted with independent spring or powered mechanisms. 

Slaters subscribes to the Electricity Association National Equipment Defect Reporting Scheme and, as such, is aware of all incidents and recommended remedial actions to be followed.

* The company stocks a variety of manufacturers' equipment, which include Reyrolle, GEC, Brush, Long & Crawford and Merlin Gerin.

Rotating Stock Profile.

The company holds what is possibly the largest stock of modern AC rotating plant in the UK and rages from fractional sizes up to 3000kw both Wound Rotor and Squirrel Cage.

In general, motors below 30kw in size, or 225mm-frame reference, are despatched on a "checked and tested" basis, fitted with new bearings and covered by Slaters' standard 6 months warranty. Machines with a frame reference 250 or above are stripped in their entirety, overhauled, fitted with new bearings and delivered with a 12 months guarantee.

* 415 volts, 3300 volts, 6600, 11000 volts.

* Frequency Changers.

The frequency changers in stock range from the small 10kva 415/ 254 volt 50Hz/ 200 Hz to the largest set which is 3000kva 11kv/ 6.6kv 50/ 60hz.

Low Voltage Stock Profile.

All switchgear, rebuilt of new, supplied to customer's required configurations and to meet specific protection and loading requirements. Complete boards or extension panels untilising air circuits air circuit breakers, moulded case circuit breakers and switch-fuses with or without factor correction. All rigorously overhauled, tested and guaranteed for one year.

Slaters carry a comprehensive range of low voltage switchgear including GEC System 4, Ellison, Ottermill, Merlin Gerlin and Dorman Smith.

They can also supply air circuit breakers from 5000 amps to 800amps and moulded case circuit breakers and switchfuses ranging from 30amps to 800 amps.

Any of the equipment Slaters hold in stock is available for purchase or hire. Hire periods can be from one week to one year with the hire rate for longer periods being reduced accordingly. All equipment is over-hauled before despatch and, in emergency cases Slaters can deliver within 24 hours.
